Very welcome to

Lappudden Outdoor Center,

High Coast, northern Sweden

History of Lappudden

The beautiful place of Lappudden, a former farmstead and settlement for the Sami people, is situated in parish “Nordingrå” in the heart of the High Coast world heritage area in county Västernorrland. Right here the nature, with small mountains, deep valleys, bays and islands reminds us of the landraising process (right now ca 8 Millimeters every year), which is a unic geological heritage caused by the ice pressure during the latest icetime. The last layers of ice in today´s High Coast melted about 9600 years ago. This and other unic nature  phenomena referring to the ice made UNESCO appointing the High Coast to a world heritage area in the year of 2000.

Lappudden has a long and rich history. The name “Lapp-“ means “Sami”, the indigenous people of northern Sweden. In the 17th century and even before, Lappudden was visited by the Samis who sometimes lived here in tipis. As reindeer herders they moved around and sought grazing areas between the mountains and the coast. In 1724 a Sami family settled permanently in Lappudden and became known as “Sami of the Parish”. Their lives as nomads had come to an end as they finally integrated into society. To support themselves, the Sami worked with handicraft and horse slaughtering. At Lappudden you can see ancient artifacts on the ground from their settlements. From the early 20th century on Lappudden was a farmstead until the community of Kramfors purchased the land in the beginning of the 1960:s. From then and upon recent times Lappudden has been a center for recreation, local groups and visitors of all kind.

Today´s Lappudden- recreation, group activities and accomodation

Since 2008 Lappudden is run by the company of AGMA Forntid & Äventyr AB. The place is open from May until September for prebooked goups and privates, and we arrange, beside accommodation, for example wedding parties, conferences, all-inclusive tours with trekking and kayaking, meals, group camps, rental of kayaks, canoes, rowing boats and bikes. Since we are situated along the High Coast trail, many trekkers stay overnight in a cabin or camp at the beautiful ground. Lappudden is a perfect place both for starting or finishing a trekk. It is also popular as a base camp when exploring the surrounding High Coast area.

Rental of kayaks, canoes, rowing boat and bicycles

If you would like to activate yourself during your stay by us we recommend you to rent a kajak, a canoe, a bicycle or a small fishing boot for some hours or a day to experience the beautiful nature by your own or catch the big pikes. Lappudden is situated by lake “Vågsfjärden”, a former sea bay. Crossing the lake with a kayak, by the way, you are very close to the sea, and a popular activity is to carry the kayak some hundred meters, put it back in water and make a longer trip in sea bay “Gaviksfjärden”. If you chose the bicycle instead you just have to catch the narrow and hilly roads and visit the pitoresque and traditional fishing camps of Bönhamn and Norrfällsviken directly by the sea some 15 Kilometers from Lappudden. A perfect day tour back and forth estimates between 30 and 40 Kilometer. Just ask for a map and we´ll give you advices where to bike.
